Inspired by the old coffee houses of Kolkata and set to open in late July, Custard will be the first bakery and wine bar from Harneet and Devina Baweja, owners of hit Shoreditch restaurants Gunpowder, Madame D and Gul & Sepoy. Situated at 4 Duchess Walk, SE1 2SD and part of the One Tower Bridge development, Custard will specialise in savouries, pastries and sandwiches from across the Indian subcontinent alongside European influences.
This exciting new 40 cover bakery and wine bar will be open all day (8am-11pm). Expect to see Goan Pork Sausage Rolls and Mutton and Egg Sandwiches, or sweet treats such as Sour Almond Cherry & Ghee Cake, alongside soft serve custard.
Harneet and Devina will, together with chef Nirmal Save, follow the launch of Custard with the second, 60-cover Gunpowder, set to open in August on the first floor, above the bakery at 4 Duchess Walk. The original Shoreditch restaurant impressed customers and critics alike with its modern take on Indian home-style cooking. A bigger kitchen in the new restaurant will allow chef Nirmal to introduce further dishes including Chicken Lollipop Madras-style, Masala Peanut Chaat and Bengali Fish Fingers with Crisps and Kasundi (a Bengali mustard).
